What is Power Coating?
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
Corrosion and Rust
Powder is durable and very long lasting, depending on its environment and how the item is used. It is not, however, a rust prevention. Pre-treament and /or primer coating is required for longer coating life. All exterior items should be primed and coated to fight corrosion. For us at the coast, there is no better way than galvanizing, and then finishing with powder coating. This way you have the protection against corrosion as well as the nice, durable finish of the powder coating.
